Today, digital communication is unthinkable without emojis. These little icons not only convey emotions, but can also help to nuance and even protect our messages from misunderstanding. Viber’s latest research has now revealed which emojis are the most popular in Hungary – and there are a few surprises on the list!
At the top of the podium is the thumbs up – a universal sign of approval and agreement that is popular around the world and is used by many in this country as a quick, clear response.
In second place is the red heart (❤️), the most classic way to express love, support and joy. It is closely followed by the smiley face with hearts (🥰) and the heart-eyed face (😍) – common elements of romantic or kind messages. The face with a kiss (😘) is also among the most popular, indicating that friendly, direct communication is also important to Hungarian users.
Laughter is also big: the happy tearful face (😂) and the “rolling with laughter” emoji (🤣) are high on the list. The same is true for the laughing face with smiling eyes (😁) icon.
The last ten places in the top ten also feature emoji with emotions: the spying face (🫣) expresses playful confusion, excitement or curiosity, while the sobbing face (😭) is a universal symbol of intense emotions, whether joy or sorrow.
An ever-expanding emoji universe
Viber has recently introduced more than 3,000 new symbols to help users express their feelings and reactions more accurately. Emojis are now not only used to add colour to personal messages, but have also become a key tool for social communication.
Trends show that Hungarian users are also open to new things. In the future, we can expect to see even more diverse and personalised emoji use in our digital conversations.
